I am having a dreadful time in Budapest. All that chatting in different languages, smiling, connecting with like-minded linguists… Followed by a river cruise, gorgeous sights, wonderful Hungarian food, and endless quantities of red, white, and rosé wine. Dear me, the hardship of having lovely spring weather in a European city with your colleagues who also happen to be your friends… Have you got your violin out yet? Joking aside, I am currently attending an international translators’ conference, independently organised by one very devoted and enthusiastic individual — the man who can say thank you in twenty different languages. The event is full of professional translators and interpreters, all coming from various backgrounds and paths of life but united in their passion for communication, culture, and the beautiful diversity of our world.
A few pictures of our Danube cruise tonight with my Hortobágy pancake, Újházy soup, best duck I ever tasted, and, of course, Gerbeaud cake. The night ended with lots of dancing and laughing but I believe those moments were not as camera friendly.
I have two more days in this fabulous city — any sights/activities you think I mustn’t miss?
